Welcome to the Scarabas website.

The Scarabas Collection started with some friendly bantering in the workshop. In 1994 designer Borek Sípek together with the excellent carpenters at Cumin Luigia playfully started the project known as “Scarabas“, an anagram of the names Sípek and factory director Cabas, invoking the image of the precious and often richly decorated beetle used in the desert to determine direction. The initially small selection was taken up and coveted by Espace & Lignes and further collaboration with this distributor has resulted in a fully fledged collection of exclusive design furniture, produced all over the world and competitively priced as this catalogue show.

To many the name Sípek is synonymous with glass and the Scarabas furniture line has been complemented by the Scaralux lighting collection. These handmade pieces are all produced at Sípeks Ajeto glass-works in Northern Bohemia. The combination of Bohemian crystal, Sípek design and the unsurpassed craftsmanship at Ajeto has resulted in this unique and glittering collection which covers a wide range of lighting possibilities from small wall lamps, table and standing lamps to majestic chandeliers.
